Short break heaven

I think the last time I had a "proper" holiday was about 15 years ago, when I had a break from the gloom of Victoria (Australia) where it gets quite cold and dreary in winter and headed off up to Queensland where it was a balmy 23 degrees and almost constant sunshine.  Between then and now I've had breaks down in Wales visiting the parents - no offence M&D, but while it's lovely to come and see you, it's not the same as a "real" holiday - but not what I'd call a proper break away.

At long last I've made amends and we're having a short break away at a lovely cottage in Shropshire.  It's always a gamble booking something unseen and basing a decision on the photographs, but this time the gamble has paid off.  We arrived last night to find the cottage was everything I could have hoped for and more.

I should add that I'm not being paid/bribed/sponsored to write a review of this place, it's just that once a travel editor, always a travel editor and I can't help writing about anywhere we go!  Anything I publish is my own personal opinion.

The kitchen
Everything you could need. Gas cooker, washer-dryer, kettle, toaster, microwave, dishwasher, and tray with some complimentary tea, coffee and sugar.  There was also a complimentary pint of milk in the fridge.

The kitchen
The other side of the kitchen.

Yummy complimentary cake
Another nice touch.

Dining area
Lovely dining area with very comfortable chairs and an extendable table that will seat six.

Living room
Really cosy living room with a leather 3-seater and 2-seater sofa.

Living room, with view of inglenook wood burner
The cottage has a wood burner and a complimentary starter pack of logs is provided.  The fire isn't really needed as the cottage is very warm and cosy anyway.

Twin bedroom
A great room for kids, as it's at the opposite end of the house to the master bedroom!

Main bathroom
There is a main bathroom with bath, overhead shower, loo and wash basin, and on the landing there's a second loo.

Master bedroom

A very comfortable kind-sized bed.

More details later.

We ate out this evening as we'd arrived quite late and just couldn't be bothered to cook.  Someone had suggested that the "Plume of Feathers" at Harley was child friendly, so we headed out there.  Don't bother!   It filled our bellies but was otherwise over-priced, microwaved, swimming-in-grease, rubbish.  We certainly wouldn't go there again and would highly recommend you don't waste your money.

Until next time. x
