First of the season

I managed to outwit the blackbirds, slugs and snails to win the very first home grown strawberry of the season!

My first strawberry
As it was the first one of the year, it was dutifully cut into three pieces so Small, housemate and I could all have a taste.  Small, who likes things such as strawberry ice cream but previously not actual strawberries, has finally decided he quite likes them.

Unfortunately my little strawberry patch certainly doesn't have enough berries for jam making so a trip to the farm near Tickhill was in order and as it just so happens to be down the road from where we were picking up housemate's son from his drama group, it wasn't a special trip.

This year, I didn't go overboard with the picking and gathered only one basketful which was around 3kg in weight.  I think we ate half a kilo on the way home!  This morning, I chopped up 1kg, added the juice of a lemon, and a bagful of jam sugar.  Et voila!  Delicious homemade jam.

Until next time. x
